Substance use recovery, also known as remission, is when someone, when they are ready, chooses to reduce or stop use of alcohol or other substances. This is a challenging process that is dependent on personalized, quality support that is wellness oriented. It can feel like you’re alone, in a cycle of substance use, but with the support from experts who understand you for who you are. At Reklame Health, you are not alone when recovering from a substance use disorder.
What is medication-assisted treatment (MAT)?
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is an evidence-based approach used by ReKlame to promote substance use recovery. Treatment with medication may provide a smoother transition off substances and through the next part of your life.
ReKlame provides virtual medication management treatment for members who have concerns with chemical addictions, like opioids, alcohol or stimulants. Our empathetic experts believe in a harm-reduction, integrative approach to promoting substance use recovery.
MAT options for treating various substance use disorders
- Naltrexone, acamprosate, disulfiram
Used to treat alcohol use disorder, naltrexone and acamprosate may reduce alcohol cravings. Disulfiram induces a negative bodily reaction when alcohol is in the body, such as vomiting or extreme nausea. Naltrexone also works to block the effects of opioids and can be used to promote opioid use recovery. These medications are designed to manage your physical well-being and stay focused on your recovery goals.
- Buprenorphine
Buprenorphine may reduce certain withdrawal symptoms of all opioids and remove the euphoric experience from taking it.
- Suboxone
Suboxone’s two key ingredients are buprenorphine and naloxone. Naloxone, by itself, is sold as Narcan, an emergency treatment for substance overdose. Suboxone is used to help people in recovery manage their withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings, and it also helps prevent opioid misuse. To do this, it changes the body’s chemical response to opioids.
- Trazodone, Buspar, Neurontin, Clonidine
These medications may relieve withdrawal symptoms that can occur when a person stops using cannabis after regular daily use (e.g.,. insomnia, restlessness and/or anxiety).
- Gabapentin
This is an anti-seizure medication primarily used for treating nerve pain or epilepsy. Gabapentin may also be prescribed off-label to help reduce certain alcohol withdrawal symptoms, such as low mood, cravings and disrupted sleep.
